End Distracted Driving

Did you know that you are 23 times as likely to be involved in a crash if you are texting on your cell phone while driving? And that talking on a cell phone while driving creates risks similar to driving with a .08 blood alcohol level? You are 4X as likely to be involved in a crash if you are talking on a cell phone—even if you are hands free!! You are also 4X as likely to be involved in a crash if you are driving with a .08 blood alcohol level.

The End Distracted Driving campaign is a project of the Casey Feldman Foundation, created by Casey’s parents, Joel Feldman and Diane Anderson, after Casey’s death in 2009. She was killed by a distracted driver at the age of 21. The goal of the program is to change the way we drive—to end distracted driving, much as the last generation changed how we view drunk driving—as totally socially unacceptable, even aside from its illegality.

On October 5 and 6, 2017, Barbara Williams and Cory Ford gave the End Distracted Driving presentation for the second year in a row to over 450 students at Stonebridge High School in Ashburn, VA. They gave away 500 End Distracted Driving bracelets to the students and staff in an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of driving distracted. Barbara Williams said, “The kids seemed to get it—we presented them with facts and figures, as well as scientific evidence of how we really can’t multi-task, and how dangerous it is to think that you can text and drive safely at the same time. We hope our message reached them. We hope they understand that by driving distracted they put their lives and the lives of others at risk. We don’t want to see them become another statistic.”
