Vehicle Crushed by Logs Falling Off Tractor-Trailer in Fairfax County. Settlement: $300,000

Settlement: $300,000

Have you ever seen a load of huge logs just cut from a forest piled onto the bed of a tractor trailer? What would you think if those logs started rolling off right towards your car! That is what happened to our client.  She was stopped at a traffic light in the far left lane at the intersection of Route 28 and Frying Pan Road in Fairfax County. She was traveling southbound. The tractor-trailer was headed north on Route 28. The truck driver swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle that had stopped in front of him, but he clipped the vehicle and entered the intersection fish-tailing and out of control. The tractor-trailer flipped over on its side and the logs crashed down on our client’s car, shattering all of the windows on the driver’s side as well as the back windshield. The truck driver was charged with reckless driving and accepted liability by pleading guilty.

Our client had a variety of injuries including multiple contusions and bruises, neck and back pain, headaches, anxiety, trouble sleeping, a mild concussionpost traumatic stress disorder, left hip pain and right wrist pain. Her wrist was surgically repaired for a tear of the triangular fibrocartilage (TFCC). She was treated by a neurologist and an orthopedic surgeon. She was 20 years old at the time of the crash. Her medical bills totaled $50,643.72. Her case settled for $300,000.

Settlement: $300,000
